The Renaissance Zaragoza

The Aragonese Renaissance architecture has beautiful examples that we can visit in Zaragoza. Among the most important ones we would highlight…:

La Lonja

Monument declared Property of Cultural interest. It is the first true Renaissance building in the city and the most important civil construction during the 16th century in Aragon.

Patio de la Infanta

Impressive Aragonese patio of the renaissance age built during the mid 16th century. It is known as “Patio de la Infanta” to honor Doña María Teresa de Vallabriga. She was the wife of Prince Luis (brother of King Carlos III). After becoming a widow, Doña Teresa lived in the house that had that patio. She was known as “la Infanta” among the people in Zaragoza. Nowadays, the patio has a permanent exhibit of ten paintings of Francisco de Goya. It also receives temporary expositions.

Church-basilica of Saint Engracia

The facade (16th century) constitutes a magnificent architectonic piece. It is no doubt one of the most beautiful fronts of renaissance style.

Condes de Sastago house-palace

Although it was modified in several refurbish works, the palace keeps the Renaissance shape and style of those times. The completion of the restoration during the 1980s got the “Europa Nostra” award,. The inside patio is one of the most elegant, among the ones kept in this city. This palace was the accommodation used by King Felipe II during the wedding of one of his daughters with the Saboya Duque. King Fernando VII also used this palace in 1814.
